Photos of Spacecraft
Apollo Program
Apollo 8 Command Module (CM-103)
Launched on December 21, 1968, Apollo 8 was the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon. The crew included Frank Borman (Mission Commander), James Lovell (Command Module Pilot), and William Anders (Lunar Module Pilot). These photos were taken at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. (Photos were taken by Richard Kruse in 2008)
Apollo 9 Interior Photos
High resolution photos of the Apollo 9 space capsule interior. Stewart Bailey took these photos at the Michigan Space and Science Center during the late 1990s. The Apollo 9 is now on display at The San Diego Aerospace Museum
Apollo 9 (AS-504) was launched to Earth orbit on March 3, 1969. Astronauts McDivitt, Schweickart and Scott conducted the first manned test of the Lunar Module (LM-3) and the Apollo space suits.
The highly successful mission returned to Earth on March 13, 1969.

Gemini Program
Gemini VIII Capsule
Photos of the Gemini 8 Capsule on display at the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum. Neil Armstrong and David Scott performed the first orbital docking in 1966. The mission was cut short due to a stuck thruster. (These images were taken by Richard Kruse in 2008)

Gemini XII Capsule
Launched November 11, 1966, Commander James Lovell Jr., and Pilot Edwin Aldrin performed rendezvous, docking and EVA. Gemini 12 is on display at Adler Planetarium in Chicago. (These images were taken by Richard Kruse in 2008)
Gemini B Capsule
Photos of the Gemini Capsule on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This capsule is a Gemini B configuration, intended for use as part of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program. Note the circular hatch between the ejection seats. Gemini Boilerplate - El Kabong I
Gemini Capsule Boilerplate on display at the Michigan Space Science Center in Kalamazoo Michigan.
The capsule, nicknamed El Kabong I, was used to support the Gemini Paraglider Program. This program explored the feasibility of recovering Gemini space capsules on land, using an inflatable parasail and retractable landing gear.
El Kabong I was originally manufactured by North American Aircraft and has recently been restored by the Air Zoo. The artifact is on loan from the National Air and Space Museum. (These images were taken by Richard Kruse in 2008)

Mercury Program
Mercury MA-7 Capsule
Photos of the Mercury MA-7 (Aurora 7) Capsule on display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Launched on May 24, 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter conducted three orbits in this spacecraft. (These images were taken by Richard Kruse in 2008)
Mercury Capsule

Other Spaceflight Programs
Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU)
Photos of a Manned Maneuvering Unit on display at the United States Space and Rocket Center in Alabama. Using pressurized nitrogen as a propellant, the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) allowed astronauts to perform un-tethered spacewalks away from the shuttle. The MMU was used to assist in satellite retrieval and servicing during several early shuttle flights. Use of MMUs was discontinued after the Challenger disaster.
